Europe is one of the key regions where these changes are clearly visible.<\/p>\n<p>At European level, several have been identified<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u2013 Emerging destinations and regional diversification \u2013 <\/em>Europe continues to attract international tourists, but the direction is changing: instead of hyper-famous cities, tourists are choosing authentic, more accessible and less crowded destinations.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tirana, Albania saw a 291% increase in international arrivals in 2024 compared to 2019, becoming the fastest growing tourist destination in Europe.<\/li>\n<li>Along with Tirana, cities such as Lisbon, Warsaw and Malaga are among the top growth cities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u2013 <em>Higher expenses for the experience<\/em><em>tea-\u00a0<\/em>In 2025, motivational travel, driven by the desire for meaning, will visibly replace traditional leisure tourism, according to the trends outlined in the report.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tourists invest in local gastronomy, guided cultural tours, wellness and personalized activities.<\/li>\n<li>As for Romania, the city of Bra\u0219ov was included in the list of culinary tourism destinations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>\u2013 Seasonal rebalancing and extension of length of stay \u2013<\/em>Tourists visiting Europe tend to extend their stay, thanks to better connectivity and the flexibility of remote work.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This change helps reduce the pressure of seasonality \u2013 tourism is distributed more evenly throughout the year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Worldwide<\/strong>According to the Mastercard report, the following trends were identified:<\/p>\n<p><em>Full recovery and surpassing pre-pandemic levels<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>At the beginning of 2024, global tourism spending exceeded 10% the level of 2019.<\/li>\n<li>North America and Europe in particular are leading this trend, with consistent and growing tourism spending.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Strong recovery in international travel<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>International leisure flight bookings have been on a steady rise since the beginning of 2023 and into 2024.<\/li>\n<li>Leisure and motivational tourism dominates, leaving strictly functional travel behind.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Spending on experiences continues to rise<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Globally, the share of spending on activities and experiences (versus goods) is constantly rising.<\/li>\n<li>This reflects a profound shift in travelers&#039; priorities: authentic experiences are more valuable than material purchases.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>The average length of stay is increasing<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&quot;Amid hybrid work, 2025 brings a greater prevalence of extended trips (8+ days), consolidating the new &quot;slow travel&quot; model.&quot;<\/li>\n<li>Trips lasting 1\u20133 days are decreasing in proportion in favor of longer ones.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>ConCluSIonS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In 2025, Europe is no longer just a holiday destination, but a key player in the global purpose-driven tourism landscape, with global tourism spending already surpassing pre-pandemic 2019 levels.
