In the midst of the summer season, without serious communication in advance, without presenting an impact study, without offering viable alternatives, the Ministry of Transport decided to close the most transited corridor for goods and people, as well as an important tourist connection corridor between the north and south of the country - the Olt Valley.<\/p>\n

The Tourism Alliance expresses its deep regret for the way the Ministry of Transport understands to communicate regarding such an approach with repercussions that are difficult to calculate.<\/p>\n

Such a measure should have been discussed with the economic environment, so that they could prepare alternative solutions, in the case of tourism, all operators have been working since the announcement of the measure to reroute tourists and compensate for the losses caused by this untimely measure - without even having an official document to present to partners.<\/p>\n

We understand and support the need to implement major investments that will allow Romania to recover from the gap we have in infrastructure, compared to tourist countries with which we compete, this being one of the areas that makes Romania under-perform in tourism, despite all the assets we have as a country. But these must not be done to the detriment of citizens and the economic environment, but together and for them.<\/p>\n

The lack of communication, the lack of synchronization of infrastructure works (blocking the Olt Valley simultaneously with works on the Margina - Co\u015fava segment, where a large part of Romanians returning to the country during the holiday period, as well as foreign tourists, transit), the lack of viable railway alternatives or air routes are elements that denote the fact that not even the end justifies the means, but only that this much could be done or there are other subsidiary interests.<\/p>\n

The Tourism Alliance hopes that the Ministry of Transport will identify solutions to shorten the blocking period and requests that in the future such measures, which seem to be inherent until the end of the works on the Sibiu - Pite\u015fti highway, be communicated in advance (at least 6 months in advance) and agreed in an optimal consultative environment with the economic environment.<\/p>\n

The Tourism Alliance is an organization that brings together among its 24 members the representative federative and associative structures for Romanian tourism, including: the National Association of Travel Agencies (ANAT), the Federation of Tourism Promotion Associations in Romania (FAPT), the Federation of the Hotel Industry in Romania (FIHR), the Employers' Organization of Hotels and Restaurants in Romania (HORA) and the Employers' Organization of Spa Tourism in Romania (OPTBR).<\/p>\n
