The Federation of the Romanian Hotel Industry (FIHR) is the first association established in Romanian tourism, in April 1990, and represents an employers' organization that aims to represent the interests of hoteliers in Romania.
Throughout its over 30 years of activity, FIHR has been a constant supporter of the industry, playing an active role in the dialogue with central and local public authorities, being a member of the Tourism Advisory Council, the Tourism Alliance and the Concordia Confederation.
Since 1990, FIHR has represented the interests of the hotel industry through continuous collaboration with authorities, the media, and through interaction with tourists and guests. It has also been actively involved, together with its members, in education and training projects, promotion, sustainability, debureaucratization and legislation, with the aim of supporting the hospitality industry, nicknamed the "smile industry".
FIHR is affiliated with the Concordia Confederation, a representative employers' organization at the national economy level. Member of BusinessEurope, the International Organization of Employers (IOE) and Business at OECD (BIAC), Concordia is an important social dialogue partner at local, national and European levels, bringing together 15 leading economic sectors.
In 2013, FIHR joined the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism, thus becoming one of its signatories.
FIHR actively contributed to the development of Horeca schemes for 2020, playing an essential role in adapting them to the needs of the industry.
Starting with January 1, 2021, FIHR joined HOTREC, a representative organization at European level, being the first time that Romania is officially present in this structure with extremely great importance in supporting the hospitality industry in Brussels. HOTREC is the European organization that brings together 46 national associations of hotels, restaurants, bars and cafes from 36 countries and which represents the voice of the hospitality industry in Europe
FIHR is also a founding member of the Alliance for Tourism (APT), an open and voluntarily established structure that includes 22 employer and professional organizations in Romanian tourism, aiming to develop the tourism sector in Romania, while respecting legal and ethical principles in business.
In 2022 FIHR won the "Industry Hero"to" Romanian TopHotel Awards for the efforts made during the pandemic to support the hospitality industry in Romania.
The Romanian Hotel Industry Federation (FIHR) is representative in terms of the cumulative turnover of its members, bringing together 4 of the top 5 hotel companies in Romania, being present at national level in over 48 localities in 28 counties and cumulating over 18,300 rooms in member hotel properties.
At the same time, FIHR includes 4 hotel employers' organizations (Patronatul Marea Mamaia - Constanța, OPH Poiana Brașov, Horeca Cluj and OPH Brașov), in addition to the 240 hotel members, which include both hotels with international brands, Romanian hotel groups, as well as independent hotels and guesthouses.
