EU Code of Conduct for Online Ratings and Reviews in the Hospitality Sector — A step forward for transparency and trust in the hotel industry

To support the existence of online reviews real, transparent and truthful, the European Union has worked closely with the main players in the hospitality market in Europe: booking platforms, hotel operators and consumer protection organisations.

The result of this joint effort is EU Code of Conduct on Online Ratings and Reviews, which:

  1. Establish a clear set of common principles applicable to all hotel service providers;
  2. Ensures that published feedback is real, written by guests who have had first-hand experiences;
  3. Explains transparently how ratings and reviews are calculated;
  4. Promotes platforms' responsibility in managing reviews fairly and openly.

By signing this Code, companies and platforms commit to implementing measures that guarantee fair evaluations. transparent and reliable:

  • For hotel operators, this means access to authentic, valuable feedback for improving services and customer satisfaction;
  • For platforms, it involves responsible and transparent review management, thus increasing user trust.
