WORLDSKILLS COMPETITION HOTEL RECEPTION and HOUSEKEEPING, 1st EDITION

On Saturday, May 27, 2023, the first WorldSkills Hotel Reception and Housekeeping Olympiad in Romania, intended for high school students studying tourism and hospitality. 11 students from 3 high schools in Bucharest participated: the "Costin C. Kirițescu" Economic College, the "Dinicu Golescu" Technical College and the "Iuliu Maniu" Technical College, who were trained by internship tutors from 10 renowned hotels in the capital. The event was attended by students, tutors and representatives of internship hotels, teachers, parents, representatives of WorldSkills Romania, the Romanian Hotel Industry Federation, sponsors, and representatives of the press.

WorldSkills Hotel Reception and Housekeeping was initiated by the Association of Tourism Teachers and Mentors Edu4Tourism in the format WorldSkills, together with the foundation WorldSkills Romania and Romanian Hotel Industry FederationThe competition trials were held at the host hotel in Otopeni, Vienna House Easy by Wyndham Bucharest Airport.

The competition involved two sections: Housekeeping, for 9th and 10th grade students, who competed in demonstrating their professional hotel bed making skills and a section of Hotel receptionists in which 11th grade students competed in two tests: Front office and Back office, with evaluation topics such as: hotel reservations, check-in operations, communication with guests, tourist assistance during the stay. The competition tests were supported by the involvement of volunteers, pupils and students from the "Costin C. Kirițescu" Economic College and the Romanian American University.

It is a competition developed in real working conditions, with tests based on international professional standards in the hospitality industry, as any modern trades competition should be.”

Marius Băzăvan, President of the jury, member of the FIHR Steering Committee and coordinator of the FIHR Education Working Group: "Hoteliers were very excited about this competition, which we want to develop at a national level as soon as possible. The involvement of the hospitality industry in the training of new generations and the support of specialized education in technological high schools, including in the dual system, are our priorities, being a necessary condition for combating the labor crisis in this field."
